Pit of The Undying

Introduction

The Pit of the Undying is a daily PvE boss mode arena with tiered rewards!
  • The mode eventually rewards you with a Undying Crows Insignia giving up to a 30% Combat Exp
  • Defeating bosses grants players Seals of the Undying which can be exchanged for rewards
  • Successfully defeating bosses will allow you to rank up and challenge stronger bosses
  • As you rank up you'll be able to fight more difficult bosses for increased rewards

Completing rank up promotion quests also offers additional one time completetion rewards

If you enjoy the boss content in Black Desert then the Pit of the Undying is a good way to experience more of it.

It can now be teleported to quickly from the Esc menu and offers some servicable rewards. Usually the time to defeat the bosses is pretty quick.

Pit of the Undying Requirements

In order to access the Pit of the Undying, you must be at least Level 56 and have completed the introductory questline.

You can find the questline "[The Great Expedition] Crow's Nest, Misty Island of Mystery" in the Suggested tab of the quest window (O)

When you speak to the Black Spirit you'll be able to start the quest "[Crow's Nest] A Strange Tale from the Great Ocean" from the suggested tab.

A boat will be needed to complete the questline as it requires sailing to the Crow's Nest out in the ocean.

If you've already completed the requirements, you can access the Pit of the Undying from the Esc menu.

The Great Expedition Questline

While the questline for unlocking the Pit of the Undying is pretty simple (most of it will just be R spamming) here are a few tips for completing it.

After speaking to the Black Spirit, the quest will guide you to Velia Blacksmith Tranan Underfoe, he'll have you look for clues in his home.

Some of the incorrect options can cost energy, so you can use the image above to look for the clues without spending any.

Eventually you'll come to a quest in which you must sail to Crow's Nest in order to meet npc Anax, you'll have to sail to get there.

If you don't have a ship, I'd recommend grabbing the one from the Loyalties store, it will be able to handle the journey just fine.

It also comes in with a built in sprint feature which most boats don't start with, which can help make the journey a little quicker.

First you'll want to grab a Ancient Explorer's Compass which you can make with three Parts for Explorer's Compass. This is so you can use your mini map when in the great ocean.

The easiest route is to sail over to Iliya Island from Velia, you can still use the mini map and auto path here no problem.

Once you've made your way over to Iliya Island, you can sail past Tinberra Island and reach the Crow's Nest by sailing north.

It appears as a shadowy blue island on the minimap, here's an image of where to sail:

Once you reach the Crow's Nest you'll be able to speak with NPC Anax to continue the questline.

He'll ask you a couple of multiple choice questions, the answers are as follows:

  • The Papu have more barters
  • Merindora
  • A Crioniak Prince who lost his memory

After that you'll meet NPC Ravinia who'll take the Evergart's Talisman you received earlier on in the questline.

She'll provide you with the title "Perfect Ravinia's Guest" which you must equip to progress.

The title is case sensitive so when you search for it make sure you keep that in mind or it won't appear.

The rest of the questline is simple enough, you'll have no problems getting through it and will eventually come to the first boss trials to unlock the Pit of the Undying.

Pit of the Undying Rewards

One of the rewards unique to the Pit of the Undying is the Undying Crow's Insignia. This item is replaced with a better version as you rank up.

You will need to use Crow's Black Jewels gained by doing daily Pit of the Undying to rank up as well as going through promotion quests.

The amount of Crow's Black Jewels you gain from PRI to TET is 5, 8, 13 and 25 respectively.

When fully ranked and equipped, you'll gain a +30% Combat EXP buff.

  • PRI provides a total of 50 Seals
  • DUO provides a total of 60 Seals
  • TRI provides a total of 70 Seals
  • TET provides a total of 80 Seals
  • PEN provides a total of 100 seals

This will let you look at the table above to see what rewards you can expect to gain through completing the Pit of the Undying.

A lot of people tend to go for the Cron Stone Bundle for 3 Seal of the Undying which if you're at PEN bosses can be anywhere from 33 to 165 crons a day if you use all 100 seals.

Boss Mechanics

At the end of the questline you will be given the opportunity to go into the Pit of the Undying. You'll need to complete this boss rush to unlock the daily content.

Since there are several bosses with unique mechanics, I'll outline the mechanics for them here. Note that some bosses will appear later on as you rank up through the promotion ranks of the Pit.

Rakan

The first boss that will appear is pretty easy to get you warmed up to how the Pit of Undying works.

There's nothing really to Rakan, at least no special mechanics that need any real attention. He's kind of just a big ball of HP, you shouldn't have any trouble defeating him.

Valkin

Valkin has a unique enraged mechanic that will cause them to slam the floor and create a dark purple mist.

The mist slows but also deals a decent bit of damage, but its easy enough, just play safe around it.

If you see he run to the center of the arena he will actively spawn more mist.

  • The mist will be homing, and will chase after to you to try and explode
  • Valkin gets frontal guard during this phase so make sure you back attack if you do engage
  • If you avoid the mist mechanics then he's a pretty easy boss to take down

Bennet

Bennet's main gimmick is spawning clones after you've lowered her hp enough.

The real Bennet will take more damage and you'll be able to walk through the clones but not her.

  • make sure not to kill a clone first, as all copies of Bennet will despawn and reappear with full HP.
  • Killing the real Bennet will leave her at the hp she was at before splitting.
  • Other than that just be careful of her ranged CC abilities and you'll be fine.
  • You can just group her up with her clones and damage them all at the same time.

Fareed

Fareed is one of the easier bosses, he'll have a very choreographed move where he stabs his spear into the ground and begins to regenerate HP.

Use a Floating CC to interupt his healing, after he's been knocked down he won't try to heal again.

After that it's a basic boss fight, just DPS him down until you kill him while avoiding his basic attack patterns.

Evergart

Evergart is pretty tanky but he's really simple mechanically, especially if you're playing a class that can kite. He acts as a promotion test boss.

He'll have really obvious tells with blue glows when he's about to use skill attacks.

  • Watch out for is his ground smash ability, this is another CC check that some bosses have.
  • Use either floating skill or a knockback into a knockdown if your class doesn't have a floating
  • Once he's knocked down he'll take more damage while downed

Brodie

Brodie is a boss that will begin appearing after you've completed a quest to unlock him and his appearances are random from then on.

He does have a lot of ranged abilities and will set traps around the arena but that's about it.

They're not too tricky to avoid, just watch out for the timer they have that will give you a countdown before exploding.

Man of Steel

Man of steel can be tricky to fight for melee classes, once you get up close he'll start spamming attacks in a choreographed pattern.

Once Man of Steel is at half hp another boss Man of Fortitude will jump in to help him

  • Being at a distance to the bosses will cause them to use a charge attack that can stun you
  • Work on CCing Man of Fortitude and then foxus damage on Man of Steel
  • Focus on back attacks and mid ranged combat to make things easier

Kunga

At different HP intervals, Kunga will charge up and cast a skill. It's a really obvious tell with white or red effects glowing around him.

If you don't manage to CC Kunga 3 times, at low hp he'll enter a spin attack that is unavoidable

  • If you see him charging up, use a floating skill from behind him to CC him
  • Since some classes don't have a floating, you can use a knockback instead
  • if you do CC him 3 times, he'll do a short spin but crash into the wall after
  • After crashing into the wall you can spam knockdowns on him to easily defeat him

Van Riker

This is another promotion boss but this time its for the DUO insignia which gives 10% combat exp. After the test he might show up as a daily boss.

Van Rikers mechanics revolve around his spin attack. Watch carefully for the effect colours.

  • If the colour is blue, its relatively safe to continue with applying damage to him
  • Watch out for the dark mist spin attack, hit him with a Bound or Knockdown when he does it
  • Not CCing him will result in him spamming tornadoes that are basically auto-loss if they hit you

Petroglyph Stalker

Petroglyph has an annoying shuriken attack that he rains down on you from above, if you get hit by them you'll be knocked down.

Petroglyph Stalker has a clone mechanic but it's different to Bennet's clone mechanics

  • At certain HP intervals you'll see him summon clones of himself during the fight
  • You can burst down the clones fairly quickly but they will explode on death
  • Don't try to tank the clone explosions as they can nuke your hp pretty fast

Kardun

Kardun acts as the TRI insignia promotion boss when you first encounter him. He's another simple boss though he does have a transformation.

During his transformation he basically takes no damage, you must avoid him during this phase.

  • Kardun will sometimes glow red and attack 5 times in a row, the last hit is a knockback CC
  • His transformation should happen when he hits 75% and 25% of his total hp
  • After losing his transformation Kardun is vulnerable to attacks so burst him during that
  • During his transformation phase be sure to not get hit, keep away from him entirely.

Kauha

Kauha revolves around summoning, he's sort of like a necromancer who has skeletons attack you in different ways.

The easiest way to beat Kauha is to use AoEs on his summons and watch their HP bars.

  • After summoning archers, find the mob that takes the least damage and focus it down
  • Kauha will act different to the other skeletons, he won't attack and will try to run
  • Next he will summon two boss skeletons, these need to die at the same time or they will respawn
  • The boss skeleton with axes can burrow underground and CC you through protection

Once you've beaten both skeleton bosses, Kauha will be among the archers again like the first phase. When his hp gets low he'll start the last phase.

It's basically just a repeat of the two elite skeleton bosses, except this time its two of each. All four need to die at the same time. Once they die, just finish off Kauha.

Syahzar

Syahzar is pretty aggressive but his animations are long and easy to avoid. He does have a forward guard on some animations so make sure your back attacking.

As the fight progresses Syahzar will get stronger, watch out for the AP and DP buff he gains.

  • When he's at 2/3 hp and 1/3 hp Syahzar gains the AP and DP buffs
  • Watch out for new additional attacks as he gets stronger through the fight
  • After dodging his attack, CC him from behind with two different CCs (to avoid his forward guard).
  • Once you've CCed him twice with different CCs he loses his buffs
  • In total you have to use 4 different CCs as he will ignore types that have already CCed him before.

Duran

Duran is the TET promotion boss and is basically an annoying version of the game Simon, where you must copy the actions that you are shown.

Duran does this with CC effects, stand still and let him attack you. He'll show you two different CC effects which you must copy and use on him.

The order of the CCs must be the same as the order Duran uses them in so watch carefully.

  • For his left handed attack that's a knockback, you can also use a float instead of knockback
  • Duran will jump in the air and cause a bound, you can also use a knockdown for this
  • If you use the wrong CC he'll get a DP buff and become stronger
  • The right handed swing can either be a stiffen or a stun, so be careful when watching this attack.

If you get the sequence correct he'll fall over, letting you damage him for free so make sure to burst him during this time.

After three times of CCing him, Duran will fight normally but without his buffs so he'll be vulnerable

Be careful if he starts to glow red during your fight with him, this will cause him to reset to the CC minigame.

Ascendra

Ascendra's gimmick is that she will summon a bear that will fight alongside her while buffing herself throughout the fight to be really tanky.

The bear will do a rolling attack that you must use against her in order to CC her.

  • Watch out for Ascendra's buffs, she'll gain DP and hit harder as she loses HP.
  • If you damage the bear enough you can force it to heal itself before doing a powerful roll at you
  • Ascendra will glow white, you need to hit her with a knock down during this
  • Once she's knocked down you can make the bear roll into her to apply a debuff
  • Knocking her down removes her buffs, this will happen 3 times during the fight.

Solaria

Solaria is strange compared to the other bosses, while the fight against Solaria isn't all that difficult the mechanic can be tricky to maintain.

For fighting Solaria you will need to balance your HP and keep it under 60% to do more damage.

  • You might want to turn off your Fairy's auto potion for this as it can heal you too much
  • If you're above 60% HP Solaria gets a DP buff, if you're under 60% HP it changes to a AP Buff.
  • The AP buff makes you play a little more carefully as you're still below 60% HP.

Kyril

Kyril can be annoying to fight, she's basically the Ranger class but a few of her skills can ignore your protection.

Kyril will sometimes disappear and become invisible but other than that she's a simple boss fight.

Being a Ranger she can spam abilities from a distance, but if you close up on her you have to be careful for a melee ranged CC too.

Because she can sometimes pierce through your protection, its best to outright avoid her skills or focus on iframing her damage.  She can also teleport, so watch out for that when maintaining distance.

Gotha Rensa

Gotha Rensa is one of the PEN insignia bosses, like other bosses his gimick is based around CCing him after an attack mechanic.

He will put away his weapons and use a charge attack 3 times during the fight as you lower his hp.

  • At about 75%, 50% and 25% HP is generally when he puts away his weapons
  • As he charges, use a float or knockback from behind him to CC him
  • After being CCed he'll do a roar attack that you need to avoid otherwise it can chunk your HP.
  • Watch out for different attack patterns as the fight progressses

This pattern should keep repeating, if you fail 4 times then Gotha Rensa will self buff with a roar and is temporarily invincible.

This phase is basically an auto-loss. He'll either one shot you or spam out damage at you.

Kharoxia

Kharoxia is basically the final boss for Pit of the Undying, and as such has a few mechanics to handle during her fight.

While starting the fight, floating and knockback CCs don't work against her so don't use them.

If you keep using these CCs on her, after a few times she will enrage, so its best to avoid them entirely. After you damage her enough she'll hit phase 2.

You can tell when she hits phase 2 as she'll bring up her shield which gives her forward guard.

If you keep hitting her guard it makes her to turn red and go berserk, damage over times skills seem to cause this as well.

  • Now that phase 1 is over, you can now use floating and knockbacks on her again.
  • Attack her from behind to ignore her forward guard protection
  • CC her with them 3 times and you'll knock her out of the shield phase

To choreograph phase 3, Kharoxia will begin casting a dark purple AoE with her arms held up.

  • The purple AoE effects get bigger as the fight go on, so be careful around them
  • Watch out for when she starts glowing red as she'll get an AP buff for more damage
  • Kharoxia will try to do an explosive blast attack, when turning red and needs to be CCed
  • Use a floating or knockback CC to interrupt her cast, after that just burst her down however you like.
